FOR PLANET AND PEOPLE
Jess: Let’s walk on Wednesdays to raise awareness of the need to protect the planet. Are you joining us?
Indulge me for a moment! Let’s be the change we want to see, let’s provide an outlet for all those parents who are big thinkers, isolated and seeking to make a difference. I encourage you to think big, to get carried away, to inspire and be inspired. For a moment, let’s be visionaries.
Consider this: You like to walk ,and you like to walk with other parents. OK, the walking doesn’t always go to plan, little Freddie wants to throw a stick down a drain whilst baby Florence has a bout of insatiable hunger and the twins are fighting over a worm that they found, meanwhile splattering themselves in the thickest, stinkiest mud known to man.
The dog has spotted a rabbit and bolted across the field. The rain sets in and the toddlers refuse to move, the wind is battering your tired faces, but y
et, despite all this, a chink in the chaos allows you to chat, to open your hearts and your minds with your fellow comrades and discuss real things. The children have found a hole in a tree and are working together to imagine what’s living there whilst constructing a narrative more complex and indulgent than an Enid Blyton novel! You have been given a chance, the chance to be you, to explore ideas of projects, of hopes and dreams and fears. You have imagined a world where you are still that ambitious professional that lies within. Beneath the fatigued veneer of interrupted nights and endless block building, finger painting, playdoughing, [fill in the gap], activities is a FIRE. The passion, the exhilaration, the drive and the dare. It’s all there, intact and unafraid.
Inspired by another climate change documentary the idea emerged, the spark to start the action. We are in the midst of a crisis, we can sip tepid tea no longer. We are Parents For The Planet! Got brain, will use it. Got people, will march. So, in memory of peaceful protest, let’s walk, let’s walk not just for us but for the world! Yes, you heard me right - LET’S WALK FOR THE WOOOOORRRRLLLLDD!
On Wednesdays (mainly for alliterative purposes) we Walk For the World. We meet up with like minded parents and we toddle, we toddle with purpose! We march, suffragette style. We stand out - we wear slogans and we raise awareness for this tipping point we are reaching. We can change the climate back again and calm all this madness down. The next generation are our future, a lifeline in the midst of a human zoo. We are leaders, mentors and guardians and together we can make a difference. With each step we make we will do it for this one beautiful Planet A, a step in the right direction. We will spread the word of change, lift the fog of lethargy and walk together, leading the way to a more harmonious future, a future where we respect nature and all life on this mad, mad Earth and protect it like we protect our children.
So, anyone up for it? Walking groups with a purpose; in parks, in the countryside, in towns, by prominent landmarks. Anywhere. Let’s go, spread the message and encourage a wave of climate action to take the nation by storm. 3, 2, 1… START!
